Yes, these days, Spitalfields, Brick Lane & Shoreditch have found their fortune in commerce and creativity, becoming a literal-rags-to-riches tale, famous for outstanding street art, classic curry houses and cool-as-a-cucumber vibes.
But it hasn’t always been this way.
In the 1800s, the East End of London was one of the most deprived, squalid and terrifying places to live in the whole country, dubbed the ‘wicked quarter mile’, a district where crime was rampant and life was short.
And its reputation for wickedness would carry on into the next years to follow, providing enough episodes for a whole TV series of shady happenings.
