There is so much more to this extravagant shift change than meets the eye though- with your expert guide to lead the way, you’ll soon know your Welsh from your Grenadier guard, understand what the deal is with those fuzzy bearskin hats, hear the astounding origins of this dazzling spectacle and truly get a handle on the significance of every colour, button, mascot, symbol and movement in this most British of traditions.
From the best possible viewing point, your small group will join the guards on their journey towards Buckingham Palace as you march to the beat of their drums... but what will the music be today?

Important information
- Please arrive fifteen minutes before the start time on your voucher.
- The experience will end at around 12:00pm
- We tend to move pretty fast to keep up with the guards, so please wear comfortable shoes and always carry water.
- We will not stand at the forecourt of Buckingham Palace as, due to crowds, you see very little and the experience would be ten times less fun. We want to get you as close as possible with the opportunity to take some amazing snapshots.
- It is at the discretion of the British Army to change or cancel the Ceremony. The announcement will not be made until after 10:30 AM so come rain or shine, the Urban Saunters Changing of the Guard experience will go ahead. If the full ceremony is canceled, there will still be the chance to see the guards marching, just without the music.
- Sundays – From April 2025, the Army is trying out a slightly different version of the usual ceremony on Sundays. It still involves the same number of guard movements and the same locations, but it’s now being called a “Parade” instead of a “Change.” There’s no word yet on how long this trial will last

The definitive WW II tour of London. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Francis, a retired Bobbie with an expansive knowledge of life and history. An engaging storyteller, he blended wit with energy and knowledge to make this a tour you must take when in London. We loved it, and will hope to get him again when we return.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Changing the Guard You will not be next to the palace, but you will see the guards exit their residence and march to the palace. Then you will walk down the mall and pick a place to watch them march to St. James palace, get inspected, and return to the palace. You will be very close to the guards, and the mounted police. Don't step into the street or you may get run over. Sundays are the absolute best, with the fewest crowds! The photos were taken from about 1000 feet away - showing the throng of people at the palace, who never got close to the guards, and only saw a bit of the ceremony, so I recommend this tour.Posted on Google![]()

So informative we loved it! Our guide Francis was excellent and his knowledge and personal stories of the area were great. I only wish there were headphones available. The noise in the area made it difficult to hear even though Francis did his best to avoid the nosier spots. In all fairness it was raining pretty hard which added to the city noise.Posted on Google![]()

Churchill War Rooms Our guide Richard for the Churchill War Rooms was amazing. While the tour thru the war rooms is a self guided audio tour, I felt prepared and was able to focus on some items that I wanted to know more about, based on Richard's guidance. His passion for Britain and history was very obvious and enjoyable. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

The walking tour is worth the time!! We were afraid the walking portion of this tour would be just a bunch of dates and facts BUT IT WASN’T! Thanks to Nathan! His enthusiasm, knowledge and sense of humor made the tour a lot of fun! The Churchill War Rooms tour was also amazing! The Churchill museum portion is also interesting, but a little hard to navigate your way through and it is overly dark so it is difficult to read some of the display plaques.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()
